Dancers, artists, fashion designers earn over N3m in competitions – New Telegraph


The Felabration 2022 kicked off with three activities featuring art competitions, afrobic dance and fashion shows. All three contests had entrants submitting entries that followed the year’s theme, Fear Not 4 Man. The first competition that announced the Felabration 2022 was the art competition held on September 29.

A young Nigerian artist, Anigioro Omolade Babatunde emerged as the winner and was awarded with the sum of N550,000. Fifty-five different works of art competed fiercely for the winning prize in the competition which heralded Felabration, the festival of month-long music and lifestyle program honoring the legendary late musician, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, progenitor of afrobeat. The judges; Sarah Boulos, Prince Yemisi Shyllon and Mufu Onifade carefully evaluated the works of various artists from around the world, who competed for the coveted prize, fame and honor.

Uzoma Vincent’s sculpture titled; Freedom, emerged as runners-up with a N250,000 token while Akinola Oluwatomi Kazeem’s; Despite all expectations, he came third and was rewarded with the sum of 150,000 naira. The Felabration Afrobics Dance Competition was held at the New Afrikan Shrine on September 30. The winners went home with a total sum of N2,350,000 million as a reward for their dedication.

The judges; Funke Kuti, Segun Adefila and Bunmi Olunloyo ranked the top five dancers. Chrysolite crew won the first N1million cash prize while Lagos Family came second, winning N750,000. Danjex came third, winning a N500,000 cash prize. of collaborative business support, rewarded the fourth and fifth winners with a consolation prize of N50,000 each. Participants in the event were also allowed to participate in a random dance contest which saw three people win the sum of N10,000 each.

On Sunday, October 2, the young fashion designer, Olanrewaju Sipe, became the first winner of the first edition of the Dress Like Fela Fashion competition. Sipe, the CEO of Sipsonlevon Designs, was rewarded with the sum of 1 million naira. The fashion contest took its theme from Felabration 2022 theme; Fear not 4 man. The judges were Frank Osodi and Lanre DaSilva. Ogunyemi Oluwasegun Michaels of Olu Michaels Designs came second while 21-year-old Aladesanmi Precious of Specific Designs came third. During the show, popular actress, Carol King, performed a rendition of Fela’s hit song, Teacher don’t learn me nonsense, while fellow contestant, Ifeoma Meze, performed a rendition of Fela’s Authority Stealing to the admiration of the public.
