GREENSBORO, North Carolina (TheACC.com) – Junior Duke Gina Kim, Atlantic Coast Conference female golf athlete of the year, leads the 2021 All-ACC Academic Team, announced Thursday.

Hailing from Chapel Hill, NC, Kim has proven all season long that she is one of the best female golfers in the ACC and nationally. In April, she won ACC individual medalist honors in stroke competitions and assisted Duke in the ACC championship with match play wins over Virginia in the semifinals and Florida State in the final. Kim finished fifth in the NCAA Championship as Duke advanced to the semi-finals. She posted the second-lowest conference stroke average this season, was ranked No.10 by Golfstat, and won WGCA All-America First Team honors.

A total of 11 student-athletes who have won All-ACC honors this season have also secured spots on the varsity honors squad: Duke’s Kim, Jaravee Boonchant, Phoebe Brinker and Erica Shepherd; Lauren Hartlage of Louisville; Beth Lillie from Virginia, Becca DiNunzio and Emily Mahar from Virginia Tech; and Rachel Kuehn, Siyun Liu and Lauren Walsh of Wake Forest.

Duke, Virginia and Virginia Tech led the way with five winners each.

Lauren Hartlage of Louisville and Renate Grimstad of Miami have been honored for the fourth time.

The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award was established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports. Candidates for the award must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for their career as well as an average of 3.0 for each of the last two semesters.

To be eligible for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete, regardless of classification, must have achieved a GPA of 3.00 for the previous semester and have maintained a GPA of 3.00 during his academic career.

The CCA Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a 3.0 GPA for the current academic year, will be released in July.
