Gigi Hadid announced on Instagram today that she will be donating all of her Fashion Month earnings to relief efforts in Ukraine, which is currently facing an aggressive invasion by Russian troops under the orders of President Vladimir Putin. For the past few weeks, the model has been a staple on the catwalk, having appeared in major Fall 2022 shows at Michael Kors, Versace and Vivienne Westwood, and more.

“Having a set calendar for fashion month means that my colleagues and I often present new fashion collections at heartbreaking and traumatic times in history,” Hadid wrote. “We have no control over most of our working hours, but we would like to walk ‘for’ something. In the footsteps of my friend [and fellow model] @micarganaraz, I pledge to donate my earnings from the Fall 2022 shows to help those suffering from the war in Ukraine, as well as continuing to support those going through the same in Palestine.

In more ways than one, the fashion world attempted to use its platform this month to help raise awareness of the dire situation in Ukraine. Ukrainian talents like Bevza designer Svitlana Bevza and model Eugenia Dubinov both shared their experiences directly from Kyiv. At today’s Balenciaga show, designer Demna Gvasalia, dressed in blue and yellow, dedicated her show to the resilience of Ukrainians. Major brands and retailers, such as Net-a-Porter, Nike, Chanel and Louis Vuitton, have completely stopped exporting to Russia.

Hadid and Argañaraz take this feeling of support one step further and donate any financial support they received during this time. Hadid, who “Our eyes and our hearts must be open to all human injustice,” Hadid wrote. “May we all see each other as brothers and sisters, beyond politics, beyond race, beyond religion. In the end, it is innocent lives that pay for war, not rulers. ALWAYS UKRAINE. KEYS ON PALESTINE. PEACE. PEACE. PEACE.”
