The second I donned the Old Navy High-Waisted Side-Slit Flare Jeans in May, I knew I was officially sold on the split-pant trend. They add a chic level of intrigue that I’ve fallen in love with, and that’s precisely how I recently ended up with the label’s High-Waisted Stevie Split-Front Skinny Pants ($40) in my cart as well. They caught my eye while browsing the retailer’s new arrivals in November, and judging by my love for the aforementioned denim, I knew I had to try this business style too. My honest thoughts on them ahead.
What I like about these pants
I’m wearing these pants as I type this article, and wow, they are comfortable. Their rayon-blend fabric is legitimately as comfortable as sweatpants, but they’re perfect for a professional work environment. I paired them with my favorite pair of beige heels, a bodysuit and a blazer to give them their first try, but I think they would look just as cute with a pair of high top sneakers or heels. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I love versatile wardrobe finds, and these certainly tick all the boxes.
What to note about these pants
As perfect as these pants are in style and material, it might take some trial and error to get the perfect fit. I ordered my usual size, medium, and they fit the leg perfectly but are a bit oversized in the waist. To me, they’re not so big that they’re not wearable or uncomfortable, but that’s something you might possibly feel if you choose to buy them too.
After browsing through the reviews section on the brand’s website, I learned that the vast majority of shoppers had a positive experience focusing on their size, but a fraction of shoppers found them too long and therefore returned them. For this reason, we recommend that you try them on in store if you have the chance.
Finally, some shoppers expected them to look more like traditional pants than leggings. IMO they are a unique fusion of the two. It is made of thick material similar to dress pants, but fitted through the thigh like leggings. I think it will come down to your personal preference to decide if this is the right fit and material for you, but know that I’m a fan.
Who are these pants for?
These pants are ideal for those looking to try a modern take on a classic style. Since they’re so versatile, there’s no real risk in adding them to your wardrobe, especially if you wanted to upgrade your wardrobe with a few new pairs of high rise bottoms.
- These pants are available in sizes XS to 4X.
- They also come in a chocolate brown color called “French Roast”.
- To clean them, the brand recommends washing them in a delicate cold machine and drying them in the open air.
