How a bag of clothes helped catch escaped prisoners from Gilboa

By on September 30, 2021 0
A Tel Yosef orchard worker found prisoner uniforms hidden in an orchard tree, helping to capture two of the prisoners who escaped from Gilboa prison in early September.

Ten days after the escape, the man found a bag in a tree that contained prison uniforms that the prisoners were wearing during their escape. This discovery helped the Shin Bet and police investigators build a route for the prisoners, which ultimately led to their recapture.

“I was going through the tree and found the bag,” the man told Ynet on Wednesday. “I didn’t touch it. I told my boss about it, and he called the police. It’s amazing to find something like this while you are working.”

A border police commander, Jamal Rabah, told Ynet that “the clothes were found in trees 5 km from the prison. They were hidden in the branches so that they were not seen from the ground.”

According to Ynet, the clothes were handed over from the border police to the Shin Bet, and it was confirmed that they were the prisoners’ uniforms.

On Wednesday morning, prosecutors announced their intention in court to indict five other prisoners who helped the six escape.
