Miss Julie

Artist and printmaker Luke Reidy’s crisp, clean style with overlapping layers of color inspired Julie Peelo’s latest bag collection. The designer, now based in Dublin after a successful career abroad, has produced a clean mix of bags, clutches, saffiano leathers (hatched) and small accessories. The summer colors of the shoulder straps speak for themselves: cobalt blue, cognac, denim, raspberry and orange. Its large totes – totes available in aqua, hot pink, black and cognac, as well as a summer cream with orange and aqua stripes, are roomy, proud and can hold everything from laptops and phones to keys, makeup and more. Prices range from €160 to €225. peelo.fr

CUFFS AND COLLARS

One way to wear a black dress from day to night is to simply add a striking collar or cuffs. These, using luxurious European lace, are made in Baku, Azerbaijan in a small workshop run by a local community of women and finished in London by designer Azima Musayeva. All are handcrafted in limited numbers and many take hours to create. A particularly seductive collar, called the Corentin, is in black and white houndstooth tweed and would sublimate a white shirt, LBD or cashmere jumper and jeans (currently on sale £180/€211). Find them on azimamusayeva.com.

CAROLINE’S COLORS

After years of creating textile designs and prints for major brands in New York, Sydney and London, Drogheda native and NCAD graduate Caroline Duffy has finally launched her own brand of luxurious silk scarves during lockdown. Her bold floral and abstract designs, infused with color and inspired by nature, garden flowers and forest walks, have attracted wide audiences “and embody joy, femininity and strength,” she says. Printed in Italy, prices start at €135 – find them at carolineduffydesigns.com. The one presented here is the Flourish Etoile with geraniums and peonies, priced at €210.

GHANEM KILLS THEM

Not all influencers are teenagers or in their twenties. That woman, 53-year-old personal trainer Grece Ghanem, originally from Lebanon now living in Montreal, has over half a million Instagram followers and has become something of a style icon. With her signature gray hair and hues, she shows how to wear everything with elan – from high-cut jeans and trench coats to funky trouser suits and floor-length dresses paired with rubber ankle boots. “I wear things in a fun way. I don’t have to disappear,” she told Vogue. “Women my age aren’t represented on the catwalk or in magazines. In the end, it’s you, not the clothes matter.

NOT SO FAIRY

Every year, Faye Dinsmore releases a new take on the Aran sweater in her one-of-a-kind capsule collection for Create. This year she brings all the experience of her Donegal heritage, her international career as a model and her collaboration with Sonia Rykiel and Ralph Lauren to her innovative take on this familiar heritage item. Using traditional knitting techniques (and plenty of blackberry stitch), each piece is hand-knit in Donegal wool from Donegal Yarns, with the addition of French knots and felting by the Dublin-based textile artist Ciara Harrison for more oomph. Prices range from €200 to €895 at Create and are available until August.
